Leaf top, Dessine-moi un patron
You’re not dreaming, I’m finally back with a sewing article! I have several projects to show you (especially my 3rd project for the LTA Green Seamstress), but we have not yet managed to photograph everything (bad weather, bad light or injured partner…), so I hope I will be able to post them as soon as possible!
But we still managed after two attempts to photograph this first project sewn recently: the Leaf top, from the french company Dessine-moi un patron. The pattern of the Leaf top/dress came out just before I went on vacation, so about 15 days ago, and I immediately loved it. I also loved the Bloom top/dress pattern that I can not wait to make!I had bought the fabric at the same time as the pattern release, as I knew that I wanted to sew it in it. I ordered 1m50 of this Rifle Paper Co rayon fabric found at The Tartan Reel (be careful, it is only 110m wide), I washed it, then starched it, and it was ready to be sewn. As soon as I received the pattern (a Saturday, and I went on holiday the Monday night), I directly cut it and in just one evening, this top was sewn! I admit to love the dress version of this pattern a lot, however, even if this fabric is one of my favourite (it’s the same pattern as my first Elona blouse but in a more summer colour), I was not sure to assume the flowers on a dress. In addition, this fabric being very summery, I was not sure either to wear it very often considering my holiday destinations for this summer. So I chose the top version for this time, and the dress will follow later. Regarding the pattern, I found it very easy to sew and totally accessible to beginners. The top version has only a few pieces: two back pieces, a front piece, and inside parts, which is perfect for a rayon. I love the small sleeves, which give a very feminine look to this top. It is possible to turn them but I did not find it very pretty with this fabric and flowers, as I didn’t match the fabric on the inside.
I think that if you want to try to sew rayon fabrics, this pattern is perfect for a first time. The explanations are clear and I did not have any particular problem, which is really nice when you sew under pressure and time! And I love the detail of the buttoned back … so pretty!
I sewed the size 34 at the bust, then 36 for the waist and hips and it fits me perfectly.Regarding the fabric, as mentioned in my article on Elona blouse, I find it is a very good quality. It is soft, non-transparent and does not crease too much. The back of my top is slightly creased on the photos, however I coudln’t iron it on our vacation house: it had been folded in a backpack, then worn while I was sitting a little while in the car … but nothing dramatic. We took advantage of our vacation on the beautiful island of Kefalonia (Greece) to take pictures in a typical small street. I hope you enjoyed this article! Feel free to leave me a comment to give me your opinion on my version, or this pattern! Very nice Sunday to all!
