Top-Down playsuit : norwegian playsuit #1
Hello everyone! I’m writing to you today to present yet another knitting project! I really discovered a new passion a few months ago. Even though I miss sewing, and I can’t wait to sew more often, I’m really enjoying this break filled with lots of knitting. Also at the same time, I discovered another passion : Norwegian playsuits for babies! As I told you in my last Five little things post, I’m following a few Norwegian knitting addict on IG, and I’m loving everything they are making! With a little hat and tight, playsuits are just the cutest on babies and I can see myself dressing Alice like this for a lot of winter!
I’m going to start a “Norwegian playsuits series”, so here’s my first one! If you look well, you’ll find a lot of cute patterns on Ravelry, but most of them are only in written in Norwegian. I saw on the pattern page that this one was going to be translated into English, and I couldn’t wait to make it. As soon as it had been done, I bought it and was ready to start! It’s called Top-Down Playsuit and it’s from Jane Josten (She’s Knitting on IG). It’s her first and only pattern for now. You knit it in the round, as a top-down. I really like the raglan sleeves, but I didn’t use the same method as the one in the pattern : if you look at the original pattern, you’ll see that the raglan sleeves shows the bodysuit under, because of the holes. As I don’t often put bodysuit the same colour as the outfit (because you’re not supposed to see it!), I used the same method as in the Puerpuerium Cardigan : M1R & M1L before and after the marker.
The pattern is very easy to understand, and is not very difficult. On top of that, it’s a quick make. The only big issue in my opinion is the size. I started to knit it size 3-6 months, needles 3.5mm with the right gauge, but it looked very very small. I started it all again in 6-9 months, needles 3.75mm and it fits my baby who’s 3 months, but it won’t for long… I wrote to the designer to tell her but it looks like her tester didn’t mention it. If you decide to knit it, let me know!
I will make it again anyway as I really love the style, but I’m gonna have to think twice before choosing the size! Regarding the yarn, I used the Shelridge DK, from La Maison Tricotée that I really loved. It’s very soft and nice to knit, but it didn’t stay as nice after blocking because it’s pilling quite a lot and that’s a shame. The pattern recommended 150g, so I bought two skeins but used only about 120g. I’ve got enough left for a hat or a small project.
I’m still really happy with the result though, and my baby looks so cute in it! With pink tight like the icord at the waist, it goes perfectly together! I can’t wait to make an other one!
Have a nice week-end !
