SPECIAL POST : ALDER SHIRTDRESS & A BIT MORE.
Today I have a very special post for you! Of course, I’m going to show you my latest creation (a dress of course), but it’s not the only thing that I have for you!
A few weeks ago, Linda from Lovely Peonies contacted me to see if I would be interested in doing a photoshoot with her : a good way for her to change things up and photograph a sewer, and also a good way for me to try something else besides our usual shoots with Mister. I had a look at her work onher website and I really liked it : the colours, the ambiance, the poses … so I challenged myself and said yes!
We really struggled to find a good day for this shoot as, as I told you already, we had the worst weather possible in June and it was impossible to shoot anything. And then finally, on Saturday morning, the perfect moment arrived!
I spent a lot of time thinking which dress I was going to wear for the day : my Southport dress from True Bias, my AlderShirtdress from Grainline Studio or another casual one I made in knit last week. In the end I went for theAlderShirtdress, and I’ll show you the other ones later in July.
I made a dress using this pattern already last year (you can find the post here), but because certain feminine attributes have grown a little this year (really? Why? Don’t worry I’ll explain to you in the post), the bust of the dress wasn’t fitting me as well as last year. I really like this pattern and I feel so comfy in it, so I had to make a new one for this summer. I went for a size up (2) and everything went quite smoothly. I feel like the bust is maybe a little large though, so maybe next time I could go for the size 0 again but with a smaller seam allowance. But at least it’s very comfy like this which is good. I’m not gonna spend ages talking to you about this pattern as I made a complete post about it last year already.
And to be honest, I want to speak about something else today. The photoshoot with Linda arrived at the perfect time, because I have some news to share with you… Ok are you ready ? What’s under the sparkles ?! …….
We are expecting a new little arrival at the end of the year!! (If you follow me on IG you maybe have noticed the clues already last week!) Don’t worry, I’m not going to turn my blog into a kids sewing blog (even if I guess I’ll show you some of my creations for the little one), but I’ll have to make some bump adjustments on my clothes this year! If some of you are expecting as well, I’m currently writing a post about pregnancy sewing patterns and I’ll post it this week. The opportunity with Linda was perfect to try some of “my tiny bump-poses”! I’ll probably laugh at this small bump in a few weeks I’m sure!
So in this post I’m going to show you tons of pictures, be ready! Regarding the photoshoot, it was the first time that I was photographed by a professional and it was a good challenge. I was so into it that I even made a flower headband for the occasion! I completely followedLinda’s ideas for this shoot, and it was nice for once to just follow and not give the directions (like I usually do to Mister when we photograph my makes). She took me to a very nice small street in Montreal, with trees, flowers and benches, where she had shot anengagement session before.
A bit shy at first, she made me comfortable very quickly. I followed her ideas for the poses, and it was a good way to try something new. The street was so quiet that I really felt comfortable, and I didn’t have to deal with people’s looks! I’m sure you know that too, yeah it’s always awkward to take pictures of your clothes outside… but not this time! Linda showed me a few pictures of what she had taken during the shoot, and I was really impressed. For the rest, I had to wait, and it was so good to discover all of them at home with Mister!
I was really won over by this experience and I’m sure I’ll try again for sure. You can go visit her website here : Linda is a french woman who lives in Montreal, and her work is mostly weddings, engagement, family portraits etc, in Canada and in France as well. But the way she photographs makes works perfectly too!
Ok now, I stop talking and I’ll just leave you with all the pictures!!
Have a nice start of the week!
