Sophie Swimsuit - Closet Case Files

There are only a few weeks left before the end of the summer which means it is about time that I showed you my Sophie swimsuit which I sewed about a month ago before I went on my holidays. I had already sewn a swimsuit last year that I had to adapt for my baby belly, and I really wanted to try another one again this year. I wasn’t sure of which pattern I would choose until Closet Case Files released her Sophie Swimsuit.

It’s a retro style swimsuit with two versions : one piece or two pieces with high waisted bottoms. As I wasn’t sure how the one piece version would fit me, I choose the two pieces. And it was the perfect timing as I’d wanted to sew a high waisted swimsuit for ages! As I didn’t have time to shop for all the supplies, I decided to buy a kit from the Closet Case Files website. She had a stunning breton stripes fabric that I loved straight away, obviously! I had my order a few days after and I was all ready to start!

It was the first time that I had sewn a 3-piece balconette cup with underwire, even if I quickly tried to sew a bra once before, but I felt very confident thanks to the explanations. You really have to read the instructions when you are about to choose your size, as it won’t be the same as in shops. She changed it on purpose, and you have to measure the difference in inches between full and under bust to know the size you’ll have to sew. I was quite afraid during the process that it would be too small but it ended up being perfect so trust the girl! The bottoms are very simple to make with the lining and the elastics. I had to reduce the high waist by a few cms as it was too high for me (I’m probably smaller than the size of the pattern) and it wasn’t fitting very well at the back. IMG_1579IMG_1581

I’m really happy with the result as I think it looks very professional, even if I want to improve my inside finishes for the next one. The top fits me very well and I’m comfortable when I wear it. I think the bottoms of the Ursula Swimsuit suits me better so I will probably reduce this one a bit on the hips.
IMG_1537For those of you who are afraid to start with only the instructions, Heather released a video course on her website to help you from the beginning to the end (50$). Has anybody tried it and could share her experience with us?

I hope you all have a great weekend!
