Me-Made-Maternity : Le confortable (W28)
Autumn is definitely back in East Canada now: summer was very long this year, but in only a few days we lost more than 20 degrees! Ouch! We had a lot of rain and now the leaves started to fall. We haven’t’ had an indian summer yet, but considering how warm September was, I guess we won’t this year. I’m looking forward to the Thanksgiving weekend (October 10/11/12) to take the car and drive to the colours in a National Park.
For now, as temperatures are way cooler than two weeks ago, it’s the return of dresses with sleeves! I’m quite happy about this change as I sewed quite a lot of autumn clothes in september and I was looking forward to wearing them. Today I’m going to show you my version of the french pattern Le Confortable de MLM Patrons that I made as a tunic to wear with a pair of leggings.
I questioned myself a lot on the size I should make. It is quite difficult to take in consideration my new measurements and to imagine how it’s going to look/fit with the ever expanding belly. As I usually sew a size XS/S on this pattern, I went for a size S for the top/sleeves, a size M for the breast and a size L for the belly. But when I tried it on …. it was WAY WAY too big! I had to take off a lot of each sides, and I tried to give it a small trapeze fit too to make it look nicer. It’s the problem when you use a non-maternity pattern that you have to adapt! (yes, I should have made a muslin but….)
The only thing I’m not a fan of is the neckline : I’m not used to this type of neckline as I usually wear more rounded ones which fits me better (that’s why I always change Moneta’s neckline). For this pattern however, I quite liked the style of this particular neckline. I’ve read on different blogs that the neckline was too wide, and it was sometimes difficult to wear with nothing underneath.
I think I forgot this detail when I cut it though, as my neckline is very very wide too which is a shame as I have to wear it with a vest under, and I think it looks better with a cardigan on top to cover the shoulders. Anyway, my mistake, I need to remember this for last time! As the neckline was a bit too large for me as well on the front ( no idea why) I’ve made a very small pleat in the middle, and covered it with a nice red bow.
Regarding the fabric, It’s a thick cotton that I bought from Sandra a few months ago, and it’s from the shop Vêtements Marins. You now how much I love stripes right… It’s probably the fact that I’m Breton! When I saw it on her pinterest for sale I wrote straight to her to ask her to give it to me! And I’m happy that it’s red stripes as I usually wear only blue ones. Change is good!
I don’t really know how long I’m going to be able to wear this dress as I have no idea how my bump is going to be in a few weeks from now, but I think I should be ok until at least November.
I wish you a very nice week!
