"Ma garde-robe à coudre pour toute l'année", from Charlotte Auzou
Hello everyone, I hope you are well and that you are looking forward for the weekend!
For 2017, you asked me to write more reviews of sewing and/or knitting books. And it’s a good thing because I have quite a few waiting!
Today I’m writing to you about a designer that I appreciate very much, and that I begin to know quite well : It’s Charlotte Auzou. I reviewed her first two books (here and there), that we really good for sewing beginners but I couldn’t wait to tell you about her last book, which has been released at the end of October.
Ma garde-robe à coudre pour toute l’année is the book that will follow you all year round and give you the chance to plan a whole year of sewing projects. Who has never dreamed of sewing all of her wardrobe? Well, with this book, it’s possible!
It has more patterns than the first two books, with no less than 26 unique patterns. The idea is to make a whole outfit per month. Yes, not just a garment, but a whole outfit! Hooray!
This is the first book, from what I know, that offers the opportunity to sew your own clothes throughout the year, and that are suitable for each season. From the little summer skirt, to the winter coat, to the fancy dress, to the pyjamas … you have a lot of choice. On top of that, this book offers you the opportunity to try patterns for many different fabrics: viscose, cotton, fleece, knits and many others.
Each month of the book is represented by a different colour; and it’s easier to find the patterns. The actual size patterns are presented on two large pages, with a different colour for each garment, and different lines for each size.
The presentation of the patterns lists as usual, the material you need, the techniques that you will use (which refer to specific pages with the instructions at the end of the book), the pattern’s pieces, and the cutting layout. Be careful, sewing allowance are not included! The instructions of the patterns are very clear, thanks to the photographs. This book doesn’t exist in english, all the instructions are in french BUT the photographs helps a lot.
What I like particularly in this book is that the patterns remain accessible to beginners, but have a slightly more advanced level, and more details. I absolutely love the top and the skirt Mai and I really look forward to sewing them!
If you are a total sewing beginner, I advise you to start with her first books. However, if you have already sewn some clothes, this book is a must-have.
I wish you a very good weekend and do not hesitate to tell me what you thought of this book in the comments.
See you soon!
