Midinette for winter
Hi everyone! It’s super cold in Quebec at the moment and as you are going to see in the photos, we are right in the middle of winter! For this reason, I chose to sew some winters clothes with warm and thick fabric. I have been looking for jacquard fabric for months and months, and I couldn’t find any anywhere. Then…. one day, I found a shop on Instagram called ‘ Pretty Mercerie’ who sells fabric just online. Have you heard about it yet?
They have amazing fabrics and the quality is impressive. I had troubles to decide which fabric I would order as they are all very pretty, but I decided to go for this one with blue leaves and a tiny bit of pink. When I received the fabric I was impressed by the quality. And it’s even woven and not just printed! The colours stayed just as bright even after a pre-wash. Sadly, this fabric is now sold out but go have a look because they have tons of other fantastic ones and they now deliver outside of France. I was a little surprised at first because this fabric has a tiny bit of stretch in it which I wasn’t expecting, but it’s just perfect if you want to make skirts, tops, or dresses, or even jackets.
When I bought this fabric, I wanted a simple and straight fit skirt, as I have already a lot of pleated or gathered skirt and I wanted a change, especially as the fabric is quite original. I imagined it straight in the pattern ‘Aime comme Midinette’ from Aime comme Marie, a pattern that I have made already last year (here).
The fabric is very easy to cut and sew. It was hard to match / allign it, they are not perfect on the sides of the skirt as I had to reduce it because it was too large for me (the pattern doesn’t have any XS size). But I did it well for the belt and skirt which is good enough for me! I used a visible pink zipper for the back and I love how it matches the pink of the leaves. I handstitched the inside of the belt and the bottom hem as I didn’t want any unnecessary stitches on this pretty skirt!
I wore this skirt three times already last week and i LOVE it!!! Do you like it too? Have a nice week y’all!
