Châtaigne shorts - Deer & Doe
Here we are, December is finally here! Probably one of my favourite months with the snow starting to fall, Christmas decorations, buying/making gifts, buying the Christmas tree and finally spending some quality time with the family.
This year I discovered that there is a plantation close to Montreal where you can choose your own Christmas tree and cut it down yourself! As I really like that type of activity I wanted to give it a try! We went there last Sunday and obviously it was the perfect time to show you my latest creation: the Chataigne shorts from Deer & Doe, paired with my brand new Christmas jumper (you can see the English influence! #marcdarcy). Believe it or not, I still didn’t have my own pair of Chataigne shorts! So it was time to make some for myself!
This pair of shorts are actually my third one this month. I made a first pair but the fabric was too thin for winter so I’m keeping those for spring. Then I tried a brown wool but I wasn’t convinced by the colour (hard to match with my wardrobe) and I really didn’t like the pleat on the crotch. Then, while I was tidying my sewing room, I found this fabric that I bought last Christmas in Myrtille Tissus in Quimper with my cousins and it is a type of thin blue wool. I decided to give it a try and I’m really glad I did!
As it was my third pair in a short space of time, I didn’t have to look at the instructions! But I did for the first two and found that they were really well made. I had a look at Pimsy’s sew along as well as I wasn’t sure how to create the scalloped hem. Even though my partner said it looked a bit The Flintstones (yes he said it) during the process, he actually changed his mind by the end! And I was glad because the scalloped hem is definitely what I like the most about this pair of shorts. It is not hard to do by the way if you draw and sew it carefully. I went for a size 34 but I had to use 2cm seam allowance because it was too large.
I really like this version and even if I won’t be able to wear it with those nice tights on the pictures (let’s be honest it pretty cold now), I’m sure I’ll wear them as often as possible. I’m not a fan of pants but I still have quite a lot of sweaters I really like to wear so shorts like these are perfect. I think I’ll make others in the winter for sure; I just need to find the right fabric again. With it, I wear my brand new Christmas jumper that I found in H & M last week and I love it! I’ve been looking for that type of jumper for a really long time, but couldn’t find something in a good quality (I find this one very good for H & M! It doesn’t look cheap at all compared to others).
We were lucky to have some pretty amazing weather to pick out our tree and it was quite quiet too! I really enjoyed this experience so I’ll tell you more about it in the next “Five little things” post!
I wish you a very nice end of the week, and there will be a surprise post on Sunday on the blog! It will be the first year anniversary of my blog so I’m doing a yearly review and to celebrate a contest for all my readers.
