Bloomsbury – Svetlana Volkova
Hello everyone! I’m finally writing to you today to present you my biggest knitting project so far, and my first adult sweater: the Bloomsbury from Svetlana Volkov. This pattern is available on Ravelry in English, Russian and Italian.
It all started around September, on a friday night when I was still pregnant with Alice. I ran into Regineelias’s version of the Bloomsbury on Ravelry and fell in love straight away with this pattern. I knew it would be my first post-partum project. At the start of winter, during the Casa Kal from La Maison Tricotée, Perrine knitted this sweater in casa yarn and the results were really pretty. So I started it mid-january, using Casa yarn as well.
It’s a top-down sweater, knitted in the round, my favorite construction. It is so easy to try it on and adapt the fit if it doesn’t work. I used US 9 – 5.5 mm for the rib, and US 10 – 6.0 mm for the rest. As I found the rib was too large on the pattern, I knitted only 12 rows instead of 16. It’s a very interesting pattern and even if you need to be concentrated a lot, you’re never bored while knitting it! I had a bit of difficulties to understand the beginning LLR/LLI with the Lace, so Perrine was really helpful! After that, you just have to follow the pattern and it’s quite easy to understand. I really like the fit, and I find that it’s a very feminine sweater.
You might tell me that a sweater with holes in the middle of winter is not the best idea… but..! The yarn is so warm that you’re not even cold, at all! I sometimes wear it with a plaid shirt under, but I’m usually way too hot with both! The Casa yarn is very warm, and very nice to knit. The only problem is the pilling … My sweater tends to pill quite a lot. I carry my baby a lot so it might be that too, but I have to take the pilling off quite often.
I chose my favourite colour, blue, and it’s very easy to find something to wear with it. On the pictures I chose to wear a Gap skirt and coat. The coat is perfect for this period, when it’s too cold for trench coat but you’re just tired of wearing your winter coat!
I hope you liked this post, and I wish you a very nice week!
